Cloudland Canyon State Park
– for fun &lodging/camping
Located on the western edge of Lookout Mountain, this is
one of the most scenic parks in the state, offering
rugged geology and beautiful vistas. The park straddles
a deep gorge cut into the mountain by Sitton Gulch
Creek, and elevation differs from 800 to 1,980 feet.
Hardy visitors who hike to the bottom of the gorge
(including a 600-step staircase) find two waterfalls
cascading over layers of sandstone and shale into pools
below. Cottages are located near the canyon edge, they
have one group lodge you can rent, a regular camp site,
a walk-in campsite and group sites without facilities
called Pioneer Camps. There is also a disk golf course.
Red Top Mountain State Park
– great if you need to stop
and camp sooner than later. It’s right off I-75 on your
way to the mountains.
Chattanooga
– right up I-75 if you’re looking for some touristy fun!
White Water Rafting on the Ocoee
River
– less than an hour to the put-in! |
